the adventure begins!

We're on our way! After almost two years of thinking about such a trip, we’re actually doing it! The wheels were set in motion when we sold our house about 1 ½ years ago and things have continued to fall into place ever since. The last 5 weeks have been pretty crazy with packing, sorting, organizing, 2 big garage sales, and moving, along with several 40th birthday celebrations for me! With 3 kids to look after on top of all that, it’s been a BUSY time. Oh yes, and John got his Canadian Citizenship last week! Thank goodness for family and friends who helped out and kept me sane!

But that’s all behind us now and we are on the road! This is our rig – our home – for the next 2 months. My folks have kindly let us use it – what a blessing! We’ve used it many times before, so it already feels like home.

We have a general idea of where we’re going but don’t have a route planned out. We'll see where the universe takes us! We’ll start by heading down through Montana to Yellowstone National Park, then to Utah (have always wanted to mountain bike in Moab!), Arizona (Grand Canyon and Sedona) then over to California and eventually up the Oregon Coast and back to B.C. That’s the loose plan, but we are open!

On Sunday morning we said our good-byes to my folks and set off. We stopped at an “old school” playground in Greenwood and burned off some energy. Old style merry-go-round, big wooden and metal structures …. so fun!

Then just before we crossed the border into the US, we hiked up to see the Cascade falls – an incredible amount of water pumping through that canyon. (All the rivers and creeks along the way were so close to flooding.) A great place to stretch our legs in the sunshine. A good thing too as it started to rain shortly after that and poured all afternoon and night.

We drove all the way to Missoula, Montana that first day – 13 hours in the RV (including our stops)! A long day but it felt good to be on our way!
